Keith is a proud Northern Territorian who has been involved in the regulation of uranium mining since 2004 and has held the position of Supervising Scientist with the Australian Government since 2016.
As the Supervising Scientist Keith ensures the protection of the environment from the impacts of uranium mining in northern Australia and is supported by the Office of the Supervising Scientist (OSS), which includes the Environmental Research Institute of the Supervising Scientist. The Supervising Scientist oversees the uranium mining regulatory process, conducts research into the environmental effects of uranium mining, undertakes a comprehensive radiation and environmental monitoring program and manages two radioactive waste sites within the World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park.
A significant focus for the Supervising Scientist is ensuring the successful rehabilitation of the Ranger uranium mine by Rio Tinto at a cost exceeding AUD$2.4 billion.
Keith, and other OSS staff, undertake occasional technical expert missions for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and have a long history of participation in various IAEA technical working groups and meetings.
